Description

A pair of large Bow porcelain famille rose reticulated baskets c.1752Description. Painted with famille rose type decoration, consisting of chrysanthemums, bamboo, holey rocks, and insects, in the style adopted by Bow in its earlier years. The pattern is supplemented by gilded detailing. The pieces are of circular shape, with broadly oval and triangular reticulations. The exterior of the baskets includes painted stylised florets and insects. The pieces have no maker's mark, but do have a painter's mark 47. We are not

Some minor abrasions (but no chips) to the rim

with distinctive kinked handle

the use of the horsetail pattern and the fact that the piece is evidently phosphatic suggests a John or James Pennington origin
