Zedist Monk | Open Edition PrintThe Monk is arguably my most popular piece. I am still pleased with it after seventeen years. The concept, composition, and craftsmanship still surprise me. I styled and shot the photos used to capture the pose by dressing my friend in a bed sheet. The hands are my own and the face is meant to be an androgynous blend between Mary and Jesus. A nod to the bilingual language of human sexuality and a better balancing of our feminine and masculine natures.

I built a 24” x 36” paper model composed of randomly chosen crystalline shapes of differing angles

I made a series of paintings using pieces of cut up sheet metal (shown here) that were bent into curled chips

Set against a desert landscape and blue sky she is at once striking a pose and contemplating her existence among the stars

This is a proto image representing feminine energy with flowy curves and seven chakras running down the mid-line

I wanted to do versions of the same piece sided by side in different color patterns to see how they would inform each other and lend themselves to deeper dives into juxaposed color schemes and geometry
