Description

AFGHAN KUNDUSThe life of the primitive rug weaver belongs to another age. Through timeless centuries of nomadic tradition random patterns, colours and the repetition of the seasons were organically impressed deep into the collective nomadic psyche. A rhythm of existence played out between nomads, their animals and nature, set amongst vast untamed landscapes. These rhythms were indelibly transposed into the coloured knots of the nomad's primitive hand woven rugs,

often featuring reciprocal trefoils or guard stripes of remarkable detail

Compositions feel generous and animated yet always disciplined by carefully drawn guard borders

almost calligraphic geometry

Each piece is meticulously hand-crafted using traditional verneh techniques

Their practicality and regional authenticity make them enduring village classics

this flatweave is woven with a thick woollen yarn which gives it an incomparably authentic feel
